There are many choices to bear in mind when choosing the location of your next golf course home. After you’ve chosen the perfect golf course and found the right style of home for you, the next choice is where on the golf course you want to be.
Given this choice, you’ll find many different answers from lots of people. Most of the differences are because of personal taste. Some people want to be near a green. Some people have to be on the green with water view (probably the answer I hear the most). Then you also have golf homes on the tee boxes and along both sides of the fairway. Today I want to talk about golf course real estate along the fairway.
If you don’t want, or can’t find, a home on the green or tee box, you’ll find wonderful options along the fairways of par 4 holes and par 5 holes. While your view of the course still may be the most important factor in choosing your house along the fairway, you may want to think about these things as well:
- Most golfers are right handed. Why does that matter? Slice!!! A very common errant golf shot is the slice and many a golf course (or car) window has been shattered by a slicing golf ball off the tee. That being said, homes on the left side of the fairway are less likely to be hit by slicing balls than homes on the right hand side.
- When you’ve found a hole that you want to live on, watch a few foursomes come by. Take a look at where a majority of the tee shots land in the fairway. If your home is situated at the point where balls are landing you’ll have a very enjoyable spot to watch players 2nd shots approaching the green. You will also be far enough from the tee box to escape most errant hooks and slices.
- Take into account water hazards and sand traps in the fairway. If they are towards the outside, lining the fairway, they can protect your home from balls quickly rolling towards your home. In addition, if you enjoy other golfers pain and torment, watching a player attempt to get out of a trap could be an enjoyable event. Beware of loud four letter words during these times, however.
